Easy Basil Aioli – packed with fresh basil flavor, made with just 5 ingredients, and perfect for spreading, dipping, or drizzling on all your favorites!
If I had to pinpoint a time in life when my love of sauces began, I’d have to say the first time I visited one of my now favorite local restaurants. They have delicious frites, or fries, on their menu with over a dozen dipping sauces to choose from. And you better believe I’ve tried them ALL.
Of course, I have my favorites… and the Basil Aioli is definitely in my top 3. Because there’s something about basil that just seems to make everything better.
Case in point: my Lemon Basil Berry Salad, or my Raspberry Basil Champagne Spritzers, OR my Red, White & Basil Dip! And this Basil Aioli does NOT disappoint. It makes a delicious sauce, dip, or sandwich spread… and I stand by the fact that adding it to anything makes EVERYTHING better!
what you’ll need for this recipe
Mayo – I used 1 cup of regular mayo as the base.
Lemon juice – I added 2 Tablespoons lemon juice. Feel free to use fresh or bottled.
Basil – I added 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil for a burst of flavor. I would not recommend using dried basil in this recipe.
Salt & pepper – I added 1/2 teaspoon pepper and 1/4 teaspoon salt.
how to make basil aioli
Chop the basil. My favorite way to chop basil is to stack a few leaves, roll them, and slice them. This is called a chiffonade, which is the culinary term for finely sliced herbs.
Combine the ingredients in a small bowl. Combine the mayo, lemon juice, chopped basil, salt & pepper in a small bowl and mix well. Use immediately or keep in an airtight container in the refrigerator for later!
storage tips
Leftover aioli can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
