Sauteed Brussel Sprouts are the perfect side dish for any meal. They're easy to make, with just a few ingredients, and ready in under 10 minutes. If you're looking for a quick, easy, DELICIOUS way to prepare brussel sprouts, this is one of our favorites!

    Sauteed brussel sprouts in skillet

I used to think that brussel sprouts were one of those things you either love or hate. But these days? I see them EVERYWHERE!

Seriously... brussel sprouts are an appetizer on nearly every restaurant menu I look at, and I'm pretty sure I've eaten them about 30 different ways. And let's just say... I'm definitely not complaining.

For the longest time, I would have told you I prefer them roasted. Hands down. End of story. But that was before I tried sauteeing them. And now that I have? I'm a total believer.

Not only is sauteeing way quicker than roasting... but you have a bit more control over the caramelization process since you can see them as they're cooking. I could still go either way, but I will say this is the BEST way to go when you're short on time.

The end result is tender yet perfectly crisp, simple yet incredibly delicious. And that melted Parmesan cheese on top? You can't go wrong.

    Ingredients for Sauteed Brussel Sprouts

    🧀 Ingredients

One of the best parts of this recipe is that it's made with just a few simple ingredients that are easy to have on hand. I love the combination of brussel sprouts and shaved Parmesan cheese, but if you have a different type of cheese on hand (or even grated Parmesan in a shaker) that would work just fine!

    • 12 oz. brussel sprouts (about 2 cups)
    • 2 Tbsp. olive oil
    • ½ tsp. kosher salt
    • ¼ tsp. fresh ground pepper
    • 2 Tbsp. shaved Parmesan cheese

    📋 Instructions

As I mentioned, this recipe is EASY to make and especially great when you're short on time. There are so many ways to prepare brussel sprouts, but this is one of the quickest ways I know of while still delivering amazing flavor.

    1. Wash brussel sprouts; trim ends and cut in half.
    2. In a medium skillet over medium heat, combine halved brussel sprouts with olive oil, salt and pepper.
    3. Once oil starts sizzling, cook approximately 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally. (*Halfway through cooking time, add 1 Tbsp. water to prevent drying out)
    4. Once sprouts have reached desired tenderness, remove from heat and sprinkle with cheese.
    5. Enjoy!

    🥓 Recipe variations

Brussel sprouts are a delicious side dish all on their own, and don't really need many other ingredients to jazz them up. That being said, there are always ways to vary a recipe according to your tastes... and here are some of our favorites:

    • Add 4-6 pieces of chopped bacon to the mixture and sautee it all together (*reduce oil to 1 Tbsp.)
    • Add pine nuts, pecans, or walnuts into the skillet near the end of the cooking time
    • Substitute Swiss, feta, or blue cheese for the Parmesan
    • Combine the brussel sprouts with broccoli, cauliflower, or your other favorite veggie
    • Add additional seasonings such as minced garlic, onion powder, cayenne pepper, or red pepper flakes
    • Substitute 1 Tbsp. lemon juice for the water in the recipe
