Crispy Fried Pickles… made in the air fryer! These delicious little bites are packed with flavor and double coated for extra crunch. Made with just 5 ingredients, they’re easy to make and perfect for snacking on all day long!
Let’s face it. Every now and then, we all crave something salty. And when the craving strikes… nothing satisfies it quite like dill pickles. Of course, they’re one of those things that’s completely delicious straight from the jar… but if you want to take them to the next level? Fried Pickles are where it’s at.
Coated in a simple mixture of flour, eggs, panko bread crumbs, and parmesan cheese, fried pickles are deliciously salty and flavorful with plenty of extra crunch. And this Air Fryer version is our new favorite!
Why Air Fryer Pickles? Well… quite simply… you get all the deliciousness of fried pickles without the oil or the frying! Which makes them an easier, healthier alternative you literally can snack on all day long.
These Air Fried Pickles are delicious all on their own OR with any of your favorite sauces. I love dipping mine in sriracha ranch (pictured), Horseradish Sauce, Yum Yum Sauce, or Garlic Aioli!
Ingredients in Air Fryer Pickles
Dill pickle chips – This recipe starts with dill pickle chips, which are the sliced dill pickles served on hamburgers. There’s no specific brand you need to use, but make sure they’re thick enough to hold up during the breading and air frying process.
Flour – Flour is used in the breading process. I used all purpose, but you can substitute any type.
Eggs – Eggs are also used in the breading process to help the bread crumbs stick to the pickles. I used 3 eggs, but you may need fewer, depending on whether you double coat them or not.
Panko bread crumbs – I used panko crumbs for the breading because they’re extra crispy. You can substitute regular bread crumbs if you prefer.
Parmesan cheese – Parmesan cheese adds an extra level of flavor to the breading, so I always add it to my bread crumb mixture. I added 1/2 cup, grated. To make this recipe dairy free, simply omit the Parmesan.
Salt & pepper – The only seasoning these Air Fryer Pickles need is a little bit of salt and pepper.
How to make Air Fryer Pickles
- Measure out 1 cup of dill pickle chips, draining the liquid.
- Using 3 shallow bowls, separate the flour into one, the beaten eggs into a second, and the bread crumbs, Parmesan, salt & pepper into a third.
- Dip each pickle slice first into the flour, then into the beaten eggs, and then into the bread crumb mixture. *Repeat the process if desired for extra crispiness.
- Spray the inside of an air fryer basket with oil, then add the breaded pickle chips in batches. Air fry at 400° for 3-4 minutes per side, until golden brown and crispy. Sprinkle with additional salt as desired.
Recipe variations
- Use sweet & sour or spicy pickle chips for a fun twist
- Use pickle spears instead of chips
- Substitute regular bread crumbs for the panko crumbs
- Add dried dill to the breading mixture
- Skip the double coating
- Make it dairy-free by omitting the Parmesan cheese
