Roasted broccoli infused with the delicious flavor of sesame oil! This easy Sesame Broccoli is packed with flavor and makes the perfect side dish for any meal!
If you ask me, roasted vegetables are the BEST vegetables. There’s just something about the roasting process that brings out so much delicious flavor… and anything cooked in olive oil, salt & pepper has to be delicious, right!?
We love ALL roasted vegetables, but there’s something about this Roasted Sesame Broccoli that’s different. And better! Because it combines the typical flavors of olive oil, salt & pepper with the less expected flavors of sesame oil, ginger, and sesame seeds. And let me tell you… the combination is absolutely delicious!
It’s the perfect side dish for any meal, and especially fitting for any of your favorite Asian-influenced meals. Or… if you’re anything like me… you’ll eat an entire bowl of it and call it dinner all on its own. Because it’s THAT deliciously addictive.
What you need for this recipe
Broccoli – Fresh broccoli is the main ingredient in this recipe. I used broccoli crowns, but feel free to use pre-cut bagged broccoli as a shortcut.
Oil – This recipe uses an equal part combination of olive oil and sesame oil, which can be found in the Asian food aisle at your local grocery store.
Ground ginger – Ground ginger pairs well with the sesame oil and gives this broccoli so much delicious flavor. Ground ginger can be found in the spice aisle at your local grocery store.
Sesame seeds – Sesame seeds add additional sesame flavor and some additional texture, as well. They can also be found in the spice aisle at your grocery store in either a toasted or untoasted version.
Salt & pepper – Salt & pepper are a must as they help to bring out all the other flavors in the recipe.
Crushed red pepper (optional) – Crushed red pepper is an optional but delicious garnish for anyone who likes a little bit of spice.
How to make Sesame Broccoli
Wash & chop the broccoli – As much as possible, try to cut it into similar sized pieces for the most even cooking. Broccoli should be dried as much as possible before coating with the oils and seasonings.
Coat the broccoli – In a large mixing bowl, combine the broccoli, oils, and seasonings. Toss well until evenly coated.
Roast – Spread the coated broccoli on a large rimmed baking sheet. Be sure there is enough space for the broccoli to be in a single layer. Roast at 400° for 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway through.
Garnish – Remove the roasted broccoli from the oven and garnish with sesame seeds and red pepper flakes. *You may also drizzle it with a small amount of additional sesame oil if you desire.
