All the flavors of cobb salad – in a deliciously creamy, layered dip! This Cobb Salad Dip is one of our favorite appetizers for parties or game days. It’s perfect for dipping tortilla chips, crackers, or any of your favorite dippers!
I’m a long time LOVER of cobb salad. It’s one of my favorite things to order at any restaurant… and one of my favorite flavor combinations to re-create at home.
I first fell in love with it at a cozy little restaurant I used to frequent on the east side of Milwaukee. They had the best cobb salad ever… and once I tried it, I was hooked.
Since then I’ve made multiple different cobb salad spin-offs, from Cobb Egg Salad to Cobb Crescent Roll Pizza to Loaded Cobb Potato Skins. And of all the recipes I’ve created, this Cobb Salad Dip is probably my favorite.
Loaded with creamy ranch dressing, lettuce, tomatoes, bacon, cheddar cheese, blue cheese, and roasted corn… it’s everything you love about the classic salad, in dip form! Which makes it perfect for parties and game days and picnics and more. In other words, it’s basically the perfect appetizer!
what you’ll need for this recipe
- Cream cheese – I used 8 ounces of plain cream cheese, softened.
- Sour cream – I mixed the cream cheese with 1 cup of sour cream.
- Ranch seasoning – I added 1 ranch seasoning packet to the cream cheese + sour cream mixture.
- Lettuce – I used 1 cup of chopped Romaine lettuce.
- Tomatoes – I used 1 Roma tomato, chopped. Substitute cherry tomatoes if you prefer.
- Cheddar cheese – I added 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese. Substitute colby jack or any type.
- Corn – I added 1/2 cup corn, charred in a skillet over high heat for flavor.
- Bacon – I added 1/4 cup, cooked & crumbled (about 4 strips of bacon).
- Blue cheese – I used 1/4 cup blue cheese crumbles
how to make cobb salad dip
Make the base. In a medium mixing bowl, combine the cream cheese, sour cream, and Ranch seasoning. Mix until smooth. Spread into the bottom of a 9-inch pie plate or other similarly sized pan.
Add the toppings. Top with lettuce, tomatoes, cheddar cheese, corn, bacon, and blue cheese.
Serve. Serve with your favorite tortilla chips, crackers, or pretzel flats. Enjoy!
Recipe Variations
- Add chopped hard boiled eggs
- Add grilled chicken breast, turkey, or any of your favorite proteins
- Add fresh avocado
- Add chopped mushrooms, peppers, or any of your favorite veggies
- Add chopped red onion or sliced green onion
- Substitute feta or goat cheese for the blue cheese
- Top with any of your favorite fresh herbs
Storage Tips
Leftover dip can be stored, covered, in the refrigerator for 2-3 days. For the freshest flavor, I would recommend eating it up sooner rather than later!

Hi Cathy! I hear you on sometimes just needing to get through the day with kids . . I only have 2 so I can only imagine how much harder it is with 4. Hang in there sister . . only one more month of summer!! and you have this fabulous dip!!! hoping the kids give you a break today!
Sara @ Bitz & Giggles says
Cathy, I have two children and I’m overwhelmed at times. You are certainly allowed to feel the way you do with a newborn and three other little ones! I, on the other hand, am not looking as forward to fall because I feel like summer just started! My 5-year old begins Kindergarten this year which he’s very excited about though. Your Cobb Dip looks so scrumptious to serve at a football party – and I agree – love how relaxed those parties can be – easy peasy. You’re amazing – and never think twice about it! Have a great weekend!
Jacki @ Two Forks One Love says
Your Cobb Dip looks delicious. It will be perfect when the GA Bulldogs kick off on August 30!

Cathy this dip is perfection!! I can’t wait to make it. I have three kids, the youngest being 1. And my husband is already set for number 4 to hurry up and get here! I’m not going to lie…I’m scared! I’m so glad I’m not the only one who is exhausted by the end of the day.
Darlene (Dip Recipe Creations) says
Looks Amazing! I like football, but I like the excuse to eat and drink even more. Parking lot party anyone? 🙂
Jessica says
This looks insane and what a different dip to bring but SO genius. I love your salads, your dips, your treats…you’re amazing!!! I will definetely be making this the next time I need a yummy dip for a party. In fact, I’m going to one tomorrow but I saw this too late 🙁 This would have been so much better than plain ‘ol “chips and salsa”. Thanks for the idea for next time though!!!

This is such a great, savory dip. I can just taste that bacon! Shared on FB!

Oh, Cathy! I think every mom feels this way (and if they say they don’t, they’re lying!!) I give you SO much credit for taking care of 4 very active girls while juggling life and blogging. If you ever need a day or vent session, you know where to find me. I really mean that. Big HUG <3
Cindy Eikenberg says
Cathy, I do remember feeling quite overwhelmed many times when mine were young and I think looking forward to fall and a bit of a routine is good. You have a LOT on your plate and from my vantage point, girl, you’re amazing! 🙂 Being a Mom who has successfully made it to the other side with two young adult children (lol), I always say there will never be another job that’s tougher OR more gratifying than being a Mom. Just remember to take care of yourself, too, my friend! Oh, and this dip looks pretty darn incredible! We are big football fans in our house and this is going on the Sunday afternoon snack list! Pinning and sharing – wishing you a happy weekend and sending a hug!

Girl, I sooooo get it!! It’s easy to feel overwhelmed – and all of those feelings are normal!! 😉 Keep your chin up, mama! This dip sounds amazing …. football season or not!! 🙂

I can remember those days of feeling overwhelmed. I have five boys aged 15-5, it just really goes so quickly. I know it doesn’t necessarily feel that way for you right now. Good food can cure quite a bit of wiggles though. Have fun. Thank you for the recipe!
Maria says
Oh Cathy, First of all this looks delicious! and 2nd of all, oh my goodness can I relate. i had my fourth baby in May and I still feel like I might die everyday!!! 4 kids is a lot!!!! Hope things are getting easier for you. 🙂
Julie G says
HI! New to your blog and saw this dip on Pintrest. Want to serve this to staff for “Friday Treat Day”. Since it is January, i don’t think I’ll be grilling corn. 🙂 Any suggestions as to what I should do? Would a good quality frozen corn do the trick or could I roast it in the kitchen without too much trouble? Not sure if i could get ears of corn right now anyway. Really am looking forward to this new dip!
Cathy Trochelman says
Hey Julie! The grilled corn in this dip can easily be replaced with frozen corn that you char in a skillet! I make it that way often! Hope you and your staff enjoy 🙂
Nancy Lemmons says
I just saw your recipe for Cobb Dip on Pinterest & can’t wait to try it. I also have four kids who are now grown. I had four in eight years so I understand what you are experiencing. Enjoy them now because it passes by way too quickly. They are wonderful adults & we enjoy being with them so much but I just look at them & wonder at the ability of time to pass so quickly!

Can you not use the blue cheese? Does it change the taste without it.

Chad Wicker says
So Delicious! Thanks Cathy. It also spawned some ideas for other dips that I’ll work on another time.
Fran Baker says
Can you use regular can corn, not grilled?
Cathy Trochelman says
Yes! I have used frozen or canned corn and just charred it a bit in a skillet. Hope this helps!
Amy C says
I came for the dip recipe but I thoroughly enjoyed your post. My third was born 2 years ago in June and that was the most trying summer of my life. Lucky, fortunate, blessed and brutal. That was the summer I drove my husband for a vasectomy. 🙂
Amy C says
I wish I had found this sooner! For the dip and camaraderie. June 2014 my third was born and it was the most trying summer yet. Lucky, fortunate, blessed and brutal. By August I increased my incoming-K daughter to full-day and I went back to work (very part time) a little early. And then I signed my husband up for a vasectomy. We made it!
Mary Ellen says
I made this dip for Memorial Day weekend and it was fantastic. I used canned corn and didn’t char it. Everyone loved it including people who don’t like blue cheese. I’m making it again for the 4th of July! Thank you for sharing.
Katie says
Has my one tried adding avocado? How did it hold up?
Kylie says
Thank you for sharing this awesome dip! It is DEVOURED at every party and people can’t seem to get enough.
Cathy Trochelman says
Thanks so much for letting me know, Kylie! That makes me so happy!
Melissa Samples says
OMG…..made this at least 3 times in the last week for parties. It is delicious!!! Tastes just like a salad!!!
Dixie hupp says
Can you make this the night before or do things get mushy?
Cathy Trochelman says
You can mix up the cream cheese base and chop all the toppings the night before, but I would wait until the day of to assemble it.
Lisa oran says
My husband and I did not really enjoy the dip …the blue cheese just did not go with the other ingredients..and I love blue cheese…big disappointment.
Cathy Trochelman says
Sorry to hear this, Lisa! It’s all the flavors of a classic cobb salad.
Lee says
I cooked and crumbled the bacon, grilled the corn and put them in ziplock in the cooler. Then I brought all the other ingredients separately in he cooler, or bagged, and assembled and served at a party out-of-state at my daughter’s college graduation party at a rental house in Rhode Island. Guests loved this dip, saying how different it was than the typical dip fare. It went super fast. Thank you so much for helping me change things up a bit. Hang in there girls, before you have a moment to catch your breath they are walking to pomp and circumstance and your sitting there wondering when the life train came and went:). It’s ALL GOOD!!! Deep breaths…
Lee says
Also, I mixed Feta and Blue cheeses. Could also use Cheddar….
Darlene says
It’s too bad you all just seem to be whining that you have kids and they’re just so much work, oh boo hoo…Pretty insensitive and selfish…There are lots of Mom’s that are single Mom’s or married Mom’s and handle it just fine or those wanting kids that don’t have them yet or can’t…might want to consider that before appearing to complain so much about it…
