If you like feta, this dip is for you! Tangy feta cheese whipped to perfection and seasoned with a simple combination of fresh garlic and lemon juice. This dip is delicious on its own or topped with homemade olive tapenade!
Let’s talk DIPS! They’re one of my all time favorite appetizers… and I’m pretty sure I’m not alone in that. From guacamole to spinach dip to crab rangoon dip, there’s literally a dip for everyone. And they’re always a party favorite!
I’ve recently been experimenting with cheese dips (whipped ricotta, anyone?) and loving how simple yet completely delicious they can be. So I decided to add whipped feta to my list… and let’s just say it’s on permanent rotation.
It combines tangy, salty feta with cream cheese, plain Greek yogurt, olive oil, fresh garlic, and lemon juice for an end result that tastes a lot like feta, only better. Because it’s smooth and creamy and perfect for dipping!
I decided to combine it with my favorite homemade olive tapenade, which proved to be a delicious combo. But the truth is… it’s equally delicious all on its own or with another topping of your choice!
what you’ll need for this recipe
Feta cheese – I used 1 block (8 ounces) of feta cheese, which can be found in the specialty cheese section at your local grocery store. I chose a block instead of crumbled cheese because I prefer the taste and texture of the block feta. You can feel free to use crumbled if that’s what you have on hand.
Cream cheese – Cream cheese combined with the feta lends a deliciously creamy texture to this dip. It also balances out the feta’s strong flavor, resulting in a dip that’s easy for everyone to enjoy. I used 4 ounces (1/2 block) of full fat cream cheese. You can feel free to use Neufchatel, a reduced fat variety, if you prefer.
Plain Greek yogurt – Greek yogurt adds necessary moisture to this dip and balances out the heaviness of the cream cheese and feta combo. I used 3/4 of plain Greek yogurt, which could also be swapped out for sour cream.
Olive oil – 1 Tablespoon of olive oil gives this dip an extra dose of richness and also adds delicious flavor. I used extra virgin olive oil, but you can use whatever variety you have on hand.
Garlic – Fresh minced garlic adds a pop of flavor to this recipe. I used 2 cloves of minced garlic, but you can add more or less according to your tastes. You can also substitute garlic powder if you prefer.
Lemon juice – I added a squeeze of fresh lemon juice to brighten up the flavors and because it pairs well with feta cheese. You can use fresh squeezed or bottled lemon juice in this recipe.
Salt – Finally, an extra pinch of salt is a completely optional yet delicious addition to this dip. It helps bring out all the flavors and makes this a dip that’s truly addictive!
