The PERFECT side dish! These Sauteed Mushrooms are swimming in a delicious combination of butter, olive oil, fresh garlic, and thyme and make the best side dish for any of your favorite meals!
It’s always amazing to me how some of the simplest foods can be the absolute best. Take mushrooms, for instance. They’re just about as basic as it gets… and all on their own, they really don’t have much flavor. But when you sauté them in some butter, olive oil, and garlic, they become one of the most delicious side dishes ever!
Growing up, my mom made sauteed mushrooms every time we had steak. Of course, as a kid I didn’t appreciate just how delicious they were. But as an adult, they’re one of my favorites! They elevate any meal and are especially delicious with chicken, steak, or pork. Best of all, they’re SO easy to make!
A little tip? Always make more than you think you need… because these mushrooms go fast!
what you’ll need for this recipe
Mushrooms – Mushrooms are clearly the star of the show in this recipe! I used 8 ounces of Baby Bella mushrooms, but you can feel free to substitute white mushrooms or any type you prefer. Just be sure to watch them while preparing, as cooking times may vary.
Butter – Butter adds a creamy richness to this recipe, taking these mushrooms from ordinary to irresistible. I used 2 Tablespoons of salted butter for the best flavor.
Olive oil – In addition to butter, I used 2 Tablespoons of olive oil in this recipe. Olive oil adds a distinct aroma and another layer of flavor to the mushrooms that you don’t get with butter alone. You can feel free to substitute another type of oil, such as avocado or grapeseed, if you prefer.
Garlic – Fresh minced garlic adds a delicious pop of flavor to these mushrooms. I used 2 large cloves, but if you’re a garlic lover like me, you can feel free to add more.
Seasonings – Simple seasonings – fresh thyme, salt, and pepper – are all you need for this recipe. You can feel free to substitute dried thyme or any of your other favorite seasonings.
how to make sauteed mushrooms
Clean the mushrooms. Start by trimming the ends and removing the dirt from your mushrooms. I use a wet paper towel and gently wipe it away. You never want to rinse or soak mushrooms because they’re so porous they’ll absorb the water.
Heat the butter & olive oil. In a medium skillet, heat the butter and olive oil over low heat.
Sauté the garlic. Once the butter is melted, add the minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
Add the mushrooms, salt & pepper. Add the mushrooms, salt and pepper. Sauté over low heat for 15-20 minutes, stirring regularly, until tender. *Be sure to keep the heat low to avoid burning the garlic. Remove from heat.
Garnish & enjoy. Garnish with salt, pepper, and fresh thyme.
