what you’ll need for this cucumber margarita recipe
Tequila – This recipe calls for 1 ounce silver tequila (aka tequila blanco.) I used José Cuervo Blue Agave Silver Tequila, which is smooth, mild in flavor, and clear in color to allow the cucumber flavor and color to shine through.
Cucumbers – The flavor in this recipe comes from fresh cucumbers, which are peeled, puréed, and juiced. I used an English cucumber, which is milder and sweeter in flavor than regular cucumbers. You can use whatever type you have on hand, but you may need to adjust the sweetness accordingly.
Triple Sec – I used 1/2 ounce triple sec, an orange liqueur that adds both flavor and sweetness to this recipe. You can also substitute Cointreau or Grand Marnier.
Lime juice – Lime juice is an essential ingredient in any margarita recipe, and a squeeze of fresh lime juice in this margarita helps balance out the other flavors.
Simple syrup – Add simple syrup to taste, depending on how sweet you like your margaritas. I used regular homemade simple syrup, but jalapeño simple syrup would also be delicious!
How to make Cucumber Margaritas
Purée & strain the cucumber. Peel and cut the cucumber into large pieces. In a food processor or blender, purée the cucumber until smooth. Using a fine mesh strainer over a measuring cup or bowl, pour the cucumber pulp into the strainer and use a spoon to push the excess liquid through. (*1/2 English cucumber will yield about 1/3 cup of juice.)
Combine the ingredients. In a cocktail shaker filled with ice cubes, combine tequila, triple sec, lime juice, cucumber juice, and simple syrup. Shake well. (No cocktail shaker? Use a jar with a lid!)
Prepare the glass. Rub the rim of a glass with simple syrup and dip it in coarse salt or sugar. Pour the margarita (with ice) into the glass. Add additional ice to taste.
Garnish. Garnish with a cucumber slice or fresh jalapeno slices as desired.
Recipe Variations
- Use any kind of tequila in place of silver
- Use jalapeño simple syrup for a spicy kick
- Muddle jalapeño or cucumber slices in glass before serving
- Substitute Monin Cucumber Syrup for the fresh cucumber juice (*omit the simple syrup)
- Use Cointreau or Grand Marnier in place of Triple Sec
- Add more cucumber juice for a more pronounced cucumber flavor
- Garnish with fresh mint for a cucumber mint flavor combo
Make Ahead Tip
This recipe is easy to make ahead for stress-free entertaining! I love making a big batch of it so it’s ready to serve to all your party guests. To do so, simply multiply the ingredients by the number of guests (the recipe is for a single serving) and combine them in a large pitcher. When you’re ready to serve them up, just give the mixture a stir and pour it over fresh ice!
