what you’ll need for this recipe
Zucchini – Zucchini is the main ingredient in this recipe. I used 3 medium zucchini, which equates to about 5 cups chopped.
Onion – Onion adds delicious flavor and texture to this recipe. I used 1/2 of a large yellow onion, but you can feel free to substitute red, white, sweet, or even green onion.
Sesame oil – I used 1 Tablespoon of sesame oil to sauté the vegetables. Sesame oil has a distinctly delicious flavor that pairs well with the other ingredients in this recipe.
Garlic – Fresh minced garlic adds a sweet, buttery flavor when it’s sautéed with the onion. I used 4 cloves, but you can feel free to adjust the amount according to taste.
Soy sauce – Soy sauce infuses the zucchini with a salty, umami flavor. I used 1 1/2 Tablespoons of regular soy sauce (feel free to use low sodium if you prefer).
Teriyaki sauce – Teriyaki sauce, combined with the soy sauce, adds just the right touch of sweetness to this recipe. I used 1 1/2 Tablespoons of teriyaki sauce.
Hoisin sauce – Hoisin sauce is thicker than both soy and teriyaki sauce and adds additional savory + sweet flavor to this recipe. I used 1 1/2 Tablespoons of hoisin sauce.
Sesame seeds – Sesame seeds are a delicious garnish and add a touch of nuttiness to this recipe. I used about 1/2 teaspoons.
Crushed red pepper – Crushed red pepper flakes are the perfect finishing touch and add a bit of heat to this recipe. I used about 1 teaspoon.
