Creamy Chipotle Sauce – made with 6 simple ingredients and packed with amazing flavor. The perfect sauce for tacos, quesadillas, tostadas and more!
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: a good sauce is EVERYTHING. It’s kind of like a good pair of shoes. They either make or break the outfit!
It’s a secret that fast food chains realized long ago, from Big Mac Sauce to Chick fil A Sauce to Cane’s Sauce and so many more. A delicious sauce takes an ordinary burger or chicken tender or order or fries to the next level.
And the same is true of this Creamy Chipotle Sauce. I originally made it to drizzle on Blackened Shrimp Quesadillas… but once I tasted it I realized it would be SO delicious on SO many different things.
It’s the perfect combination of creamy and smoky and spicy with just a hint of sweetness. And best of all, it couldn’t be easier to make. My only advice? Make a double batch… because this sauce never lasts long.
what you’ll need for this recipe
Mayo – Mayo is the base of this recipe and gives the sauce a rich, smooth flavor and texture. I used Hellmann’s Real Mayonnaise, which is my go-to.
Sour cream – Sour cream blends with the mayo and adds a lighter, tangier flavor and texture. I used two parts mayo to one part sour cream.
Chipotle peppers – Chipotle peppers give this sauce its spicy, smoky chipotle flavor. I used one chipotle pepper in adobo sauce, which you can find in the Mexican food aisle at your local grocery store.
Honey – A squeeze of honey balances out the savory flavors by adding just a touch of sweetness to the mix. Add more or less to taste.
Garlic – Fresh minced garlic adds a flavorful bite and pairs well with the other ingredients in the sauce.
Lime juice – Finally, fresh lime juice adds just the right amount of acidity and helps balance out all the creaminess.
