Everyone loves a delicious smoothie, and this Apple Pie Smoothie is a fall favorite! Made with fresh apples, bananas, vanilla yogurt, and apple pie spice… it’s like apple pie in a glass! The perfect breakfast or snack!
There are some foods you really can enjoy any time of day… and smoothies are definitely one of them. Whether it’s for breakfast, snack, or even dessert, a good smoothie always hits the spot.
As with anything… when it comes to smoothies, variety is key. And this Apple Pie Smoothie is the perfect twist for fall! It has all the flavors of apple pie in a thick, creamy smoothie that’s equally good for you AND delicious!
What I love about this smoothie? It’s clearly perfect for fall, but it’s made with ingredients that are easy to find all year round. And let’s be honest… there’s really never a bad time for apple pie… is there!?
What goes in an Apple Smoothie?
Apple – This smoothie is all about the apple! I used one medium Gala apple in this recipe because we always enjoy the flavor and texture of Gala apples. You can feel free to substitute any of your favorite varieties!
Banana – I almost always add a banana to my smoothies because of the thickness and creaminess bananas provide. Be sure you use a soft (ripe) yellow banana… and best of all… it doesn’t have to be frozen in advance.
Vanilla yogurt – Yogurt makes this Apple Smoothie extra creamy, and using vanilla flavored yogurt gives it extra flavor, as well. I used vanilla Greek yogurt for the protein boost. Greek yogurt is also a little thicker than regular yogurt, so if you use regular you may need to add more milk.
Milk – Adding a little bit of milk helps all the ingredients blend together and make this smoothie drinkable. I used 2% cow’s milk, but you can substitute almond milk, soy milk, or anything you have on hand.
Honey – In addition to the vanilla yogurt, honey acts as a sweetener for this smoothie. I used a small amount (1 Tablespoon) but you can feel free to add more OR omit it altogether.
Apple pie spice – No “apple pie” recipe is complete without apple pie spice! This smoothie has 1/2 teaspoon, which can be adjusted according to taste.
How to make an Apple Smoothie
Making an apple smoothie is as simple as chopping the apples and bananas, adding the remaining ingredients, and blending until smooth. I would definitely recommend using a high powered blender, especially if you plan to leave the skin on the apples. (*Note – I left the skin on, but this is completely optional.) You can also use a food processor in place of a blender.
Once it’s fully blended, simply pour it into one or more glasses and enjoy! For a fancier presentation, you can garnish with an apple slice or even whipped cream and cinnamon.
