The Mojito is a traditional Cuban cocktail that that will make you think of warm weather, sunshine, and relaxing days at the beach. It’s a refreshing combination of white rum, citrus, and mint, with just the right amount of sweetness. The perfect summer cocktail!
I’ve always been a fan of mojitos, but the first time I REALLY fell in love with them was in Mexico. I was there for my brother’s wedding… staying at an all-inclusive resort… and they quickly became my drink of choice.
It makes sense, if you think about it. Mexico + sunshine + warm sand + MOJITOS!!! It’s the ultimate combination, if you ask me.
And now that the summer months are quickly approaching, I’ve had mojitos on my mind. And since I won’t be traveling to Mexico anytime soon, I figured it was time I perfect my own recipe!
The key to this recipe is fresh mint… and LOTS of it. Combined with the fresh lemon juice and the crisp white rum, I can hardly think of a more delicious or refreshing drink. And we have ALL summer to enjoy it!!

🌱 Ingredients
When it comes to Mojitos, fresh ingredients are KEY! You’ll want to grab plenty of fresh limes and fresh mint, and while superfine sugar isn’t absolutely necessary, it does dissolve much more easily than regular sugar. As an alternative, you might want to consider using simple syrup!
- 1 oz. fresh lime juice
- 2 tsp. superfine sugar
- 10-12 fresh mint leaves
- 2 oz. white rum
- club soda
- lime wedge & fresh mint for garnish
📋 Instructions
One common mistake when making mojitos is to over-muddle the mint. Fresh mint is extremely delicate, and over-muddling can produce a bitter flavor. For best results, massage and slap it gently between your hands before adding it to the glass. This will help release the aroma and flavor without “bruising” it.
- Pour lime juice into a highball glass. Add sugar and stir to dissolve.
- Slap mint gently between your hands, then add to glass.
- Add ice, then add rum and a splash of club soda.
- Top with additional ice; garnish with lime wedge and fresh mint.
