Orange Margaritas are a delicious cocktail that’s guaranteed to get the party started! Perfect for your next happy hour, ladies’ night, or taco Tuesday, this simple recipe is a delicious twist on a classic. If you love classic margaritas, you’ll LOVE this sweet orange twist!
WHAT IS A MARGARITA?
A margarita is a classic cocktail made with tequila, orange liqueur, and lime juice often served with salt on the rim of the glass. The drink is served shaken with ice (on the rocks), blended with ice (frozen margarita), or without ice (straight up).
HOW DO YOU MAKE ORANGE MARGARITAS?
- In a cocktail shaker combine 2 oz. orange juice, 2 oz. tequila, 1 oz. orange liqueur, and 1/2 oz. simple syrup.
- Shake well.
- Pour over ice.
- Enjoy!
HOW DO YOU MAKE FROZEN ORANGE MARGARITAS?
In a blender combine 1 c. orange juice, 1 c. tequila, 1/2 c. orange liqueur, 1/4 c. simple syrup, and 6 c. ice. Blend until smooth.
DO YOU USE SALT OR SUGAR ON THE RIM?
Technically, you could use either. For this recipe I chose to use sugar to match the sweet flavor of the orange margarita.
You guys….it’s almost Super Bowl time! Do you have plans?
I have to admit…this football season has been less than exciting. Because the Packers’ season was short…and painful…and when it’s not your team, it’s just not that easy to care.
But when it comes to the Super Bowl, I care. Because the neighbors are all getting together. And there will be food. And friends. And drinks!!! And this easy Orange Margarita will be calling my name.
I’m pretty much always up for margaritas…and as much as I love the original margarita recipe, if we can work in a fun twist, even better. And once you realize how easy these are to make, believe me you’ll be making them ALL THE TIME.
Because they’re ready in minutes and seriously so delicious. The fresh squeezed orange juice combined with tequila and Grand Marnier adds a delicious twist to the classic recipe.
Best of all, these Orange Margaritas are easy to make by the glass OR by the pitcherful. Which means they’re perfect for weeknights in and equally perfect to serve at your next party.
I used fresh squeezed Cara Cara oranges, but you can feel free to use navel oranges or any kind of orange juice you have on hand. You can also easily adjust the sweetness by using more or less simple syrup, or omitting it altogether.
Whether you’re a margarita connoisseur or new to the game, these ones are a MUST MAKE for anyone who loves tequila and is up for a fun and delicious twist!

Looks like I found an easy but pretty good drink. Question: the tequila for the orange margarita, is it white tequila or dark tequila?
Cathy Trochelman says
I would probably recommend a lighter tequila, but you could use either one!

Great cocktail! I added 2 additional ounces of orange juice. Delicious!
