Everyone loves a good dip recipe, and this Fruit Dip is one of our favorites! It’s thick and creamy, with just the right amount of sweetness, and adds the perfect pop of flavor to any of your favorite fresh fruits.
Around here, fresh fruit trays are a staple. They make the perfect addition to any brunch menu, holiday celebration, or party… and I love setting one out as an afternoon snack for my kids.
And although I’m well aware that fruit is perfectly sweet all on its own, let’s be honest. There’s something about a delicious, creamy dip that takes any of your favorites to the next level. And my kids couldn’t agree more.
They go crazy this easy fruit dip recipe… and seriously… what’s not to love!? It’s made with a simple combination of cream cheese, Greek yogurt, sugar, and lemon juice, which basically means it’s cheesecake. In dip form. But healthier!
It’s the ideal addition to any fruit tray, and especially perfect for special occasions. (We LOVE this Divided Tray for parties!) If you love fresh, seasonal produce as much as we do, you’re sure to fall in love with this sweet, creamy, DELICIOUS dip!
what you’ll need for this recipe
Many fruit dips are made with marshmallow fluff, and since that’s not an ingredient we typically have on hand, I wanted to make a recipe without it. I love the fact that this dip is made with ingredients that are commonly in our fridge, and that the ingredients are all simple and real!
Cream cheese – I used 8 ounces of cream cheese, softened to room temperature.
Plain Greek Yogurt or Sour Cream – I added 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt. Substitute plain sour cream without affecting the flavor or texture.
Granulated Sugar – I added 1/4 cup granulated sugar to sweeten the dip.
Lemon juice – I also added 1 Tbsp lemon juice for flavor and balance. I used fresh lemon juice, but bottled would work just fine.
Fresh fruit – For dipping! Use any combination of strawberries, grapes, blueberries, blackberries, bananas, cantaloupe, apple slices, or any of your favorite fruits!
Instructions
The most important part of these instructions is to make sure you start with softened cream cheese. You’ll want to remove it from the refrigerator and take it out of the box 1-2 hours before you plan to use it. You can also soften it quickly by submerging the foil wrapped cream cheese in a bowl of warm water until it’s softened to room temperature, typically 5-10 minutes depending on the temperature of the water.
Combine. Combine all ingredients in a medium mixing bowl.
Blend. Use a hand mixer to blend on medium-high until smooth and creamy.
Enjoy! Serve immediately or refrigerate until ready to serve.
storage tips
Leftover dip should be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 10 days. I would not recommend freezing it.
Recipe variations
- Substitute orange juice or pineapple juice for the lemon juice
- Add 1/4 – 1/2 tsp. of vanilla extract or almond extract
- Use brown sugar in place of granulated sugar for a caramel flavor (this would be especially delicious with apples)
- For a thinner consistency, use 1 cup regular (not Greek)
- Use vanilla yogurt or another flavor of yogurt and omit (or reduce) the sugar
- Add orange or lemon zest for extra flavor
- Use marshmallow creme in place of Greek yogurt + sugar
what to serve with fruit dip
In addition to fresh fruit, this could be used for dipping a variety of different foods. Here are some fun ideas:
- Nilla Wafers
- Graham crackers
- Pretzels
- Crackers
- Cookies
- Crepes
