I was walking around my house yesterday morning….making some feeble attempts at housecleaning…..when I noticed one of the most dreaded of all things to notice: the bag Ellia forgot to take to school. Again.
She has developed a real knack for forgetting things lately….and although she’s only in first grade, and I understand it’s at least partially my responsibility to help her remember, I’m finding her forgetfulness quite annoying.

So annoying that I was ready to just forget about the bag and move on with our day…. but being the good sister she is, Greta thought we should really take it to school so Ellia wouldn’t have to stand against the wall at recess. Again. Because in the bag were her boots! And her snow pants!!
And if you don’t have boots and snow pants when there’s snow on the ground, you have to stand against the wall. And if I really get down to it, that’s probably the most annoying part of it all…..the fact that it’s almost April and Ellia still needs to wear boots and snow pants to play outside!

And since that part of it is clearly not her fault….and since it’s been a bit of a struggle to get Ellia out the door at all these past few days…..we decided to put on our coats and get in the car and drive the bag to school. Just like that.

And then we came home and made ourselves a tall glass of summer, in the form of a deliciously refreshing mango-berry smoothie. Because we wanted to. Because we needed to. Because we deserved to! And because this weather is ridiculous…..and from now on, we’re not going to wait around for what we want. We’re just going to make it ourselves.

  7. This is going to be my new go to smoothie! I love it, but I made a change. Since I am diabetic, I substituted coconut water for the orange juice. I also added a small handful of spinach to get another serving of vegetables into my day. The smoothie recipe I have been searching for!
