Homemade Strawberry Applesauce

Fresh, homemade Strawberry Applesauce - made with just 5 ingredients! This sauce has a smooth, velvety texture and deliciously sweet strawberry flavor. Perfect for snacking... and it doubles as dessert!

Ingredients

  • 8 cups peeled chopped apples
  • 4 cups fresh or frozen strawberries
  • 1/2 cup water or 1 cup for thinner consistency
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  • Combine all ingredients in a large saucepan and bring to a boil.
  • Reduce heat and simmer 10 minutes or until fruit is soft and you are able to mash it with a potato masher.
  • Remove from heat and cool slightly.
  • Transfer applesauce to a blender and blend until smooth.

Notes

Recipe Variations

  • Use any variety or combination of apples
  • Use a combination of apples and pears
  • Use a combination of berries, including strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, and/or blueberries
  • Omit the sugar for a less sweet applesauce
  • Substitute honey or agave for the sugar
  • Substitute apple juice or white grape juice for the water
  • Substitute apple pie spice for the cinnamon
  • Add a squeeze of lemon juice
  • Leave the skins on the apples for texture and flavor
  • Use a potato masher instead of a blender for a chunky texture
