French Toast

The BEST French Toast ever! This recipe calls for a healthy dose of cinnamon, butter, brown sugar, and vanilla... no syrup required! The perfect breakfast treat, and one of our family's favorites!

Ingredients

  • 6 eggs large
  • 2 Tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 10 slices bread thick cut
  • 3/4 cup butter room temperature
  • 3 Tablespoons cinnamon
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar

Instructions

  • In a large shallow bowl, combine eggs, milk, and vanilla extract. Whisk well.
  • Heat the skillet to 325°. Add 4 Tablespoons salted butter and heat until melted and lightly browned. The butter should coat the entire skillet.
  • Dip each piece of bread in the egg mixture on both sides, then place on the skillet. Coat the top side of the bread with cinnamon, about 1/2 teaspoon per slice. Cook until golden brown on the bottom.
  • Flip the bread and coat each piece with another 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon.
  • Add 1 Tablespoon butter to each piece and sprinkle with brown sugar. Cook until golden brown and remove from skillet.

Notes

Recipe Variations

  • Use any type of bread, including cinnamon bread, raisin bread, whole wheat bread, or any favorites
  • Substitute almond extract, pumpkin pie extract, or maple extract for vanilla
  • Substitute pumpkin pie spice or apple pie spice for the cinnamon
  • Add a pinch of nutmeg to the cinnamon
  • Substitute dark brown sugar for the light
  • Top with apple pie filling or fresh fruit
  • Top with crisp crumbled bacon for a sweet & savory twist
