  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • oil for frying

For the sauce

  • 1/2 cup mayo
  • 2-3 tablespoons sriracha sauce adjust according to your preference
  • 2 tablespoons sweet chili sauce
  • 1 tablespoon honey

For garnish

  • toasted sesame seeds
  • fresh parsley or sliced green onions

Instructions

  • Heat 1 inch of oil in a large skillet to 375° F. While the oil is heating, prepare your shrimp.
  • Place the peeled & deveined shrimp in a medium bowl. Pour buttermilk over the shrimp to cover it.
  • In a second bowl, combine the cornstarch, garlic powder, salt & pepper. Dip the shrimp one at a time in the cornstarch mixture to coat. Place on wax paper.

Notes

Recipe variations:
  • Coat the shrimp in panko bread crumbs instead of corn starch
  • Add additional seasonings to the corn starch, such as onion powder, paprika, or cayenne pepper
  • Adjust the sauce ingredient amounts according to your tastes. For a creamier sauce, add more mayo. For a spicier sauce, add more sriracha. For a sweeter sauce, add more chili sauce or honey.
  • Add a squirt of lime juice to the sauce
  • For a quick and easy dinner, substitute frozen breaded shrimp and just make the sauce
