Apple Pear Crisp

Ingredients

  • 2 cups apples sliced
  • 2 cups pears sliced
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup all purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup oats
  • 1/2 cup butter melted
  • 2 teaspoons apple pie spice

Instructions

  • Peel, core and slice 2 cups of apples and 2 cups of pears into thin slices. Transfer them to an 8x8 inch baking pan.
  • Spread the fruit out evenly, sprinkle with apple pie spice, and toss to coat.
  • In a small mixing bowl, combine the brown sugar, flour, oats, and melted butter. Using a fork, mix until large crumbs form. Sprinkle evenly over the fruit.
  • Bake at 350° F for 35-45 minutes or until top is golden brown and edges are bubbly. Cool 15 minutes, then serve as is or with ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

Recipe variations

  • Use any variety of apples or pears
  • Substitute all of one type of fruit
  • Use granulated sugar in place of brown sugar
  • Substitute cinnamon for the apple pie spice
  • Leave the skins on the fruit
  • Substitute apple pie filling for fresh apples
