Apple Pear Crisp

Ingredients

  • 2 cups apples sliced
  • 2 cups pears sliced
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup all purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup oats
  • 1/2 cup butter melted
  • 2 teaspoons apple pie spice

Instructions

  1. Peel, core and slice 2 cups of apples and 2 cups of pears into thin slices. Transfer them to an 8x8 inch baking pan.
  2. Spread the fruit out evenly, sprinkle with apple pie spice, and toss to coat.
  3. In a small mixing bowl, combine the brown sugar, flour, oats, and melted butter. Using a fork, mix until large crumbs form. Sprinkle evenly over the fruit.
  4. Bake at 350° F for 35-45 minutes or until top is golden brown and edges are bubbly. Cool 15 minutes, then serve as is or with ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

Recipe variations

  • Use any variety of apples or pears
  • Substitute all of one type of fruit
  • Use granulated sugar in place of brown sugar
  • Substitute cinnamon for the apple pie spice
  • Leave the skins on the fruit
  • Substitute apple pie filling for fresh apples
