Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 1/2 cups fresh cranberries

Instructions

  • Combine the water, sugar, and cranberries in a saucepan. Stir and bring to a boil.
  • Once the cranberries begin to pop, continue boiling for 1-2 minutes.
  • Remove from heat, cover, and set aside to cool.
  • Strain through a fine mesh strainer, reserving the cranberries. Store the simple syrup and the cranberries separately in sealed containers in the refrigerator.

Notes

Recipe Variations:

    • Add cinnamon sticks to make a cinnamon cranberry simple syrup
    • Add whole allspice, cloves, or mulling spices for a warm holiday twist
    • Add less sugar to make a more tart simple syrup
    • Use brown sugar instead of granulated sugar
    • Substitute 100% cranberry juice for the water for more intense cranberry flavor
    • Add fresh rosemary for an herbal twist

Storage Tips:

Simple syrup can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 month. I like to store mine in a glass jar for easy pouring!
